Guest guest
Wow, I feel the exact same way!! I could have written this post. We are graduating tomorrow after 9 weeks in the DOC band. My son is 6 months old and has seen tremendous growth. However, I feel like the flat side not sticks out more than the normal side and now it looks like his normal side is flat!! We have our photo shoot and DSI tomorrow to compare when he started. But I am pretty sure my mind is not playing tricks on me. I did ask about it last week at our appointment and our tech, whom I do trust, said it is not protruding. But I am not so sure.... > > When CT makes the band do they make it fool proof in a way that by shaving all the way down on the flattened side by the end of treatment it will not be overly rounded on that side? My son has a flat spot on the back left and he has rounded out quite well in the last 5 weeks of treatment. Sometimes I worry that his left now looks like it sticks out further than the right. Can it overcorrect? Do they ever shave the other side for plagio cases? > Jen >
Guest guest
Another note. My son had plagio (18mm) and brachy (96%) but they only really addressed the plagio. Meaning they only shaved foam fromt he plagio side. I am feeling a bit paranoid I know but I have a feeling this will mean a second band. > > When CT makes the band do they make it fool proof in a way that by shaving all the way down on the flattened side by the end of treatment it will not be overly rounded on that side? Guest guest
I would be really surprised if it were true. I don't think I've heard of a case of this happening anywhere, let alone at CT and I've been reading plagio posts for almost two years. Please let us know how the Dsi turns out. Guest guest
Jen,My daughter's orthotist left a ltiny bit of room on the non-flat side in her helmet to allow for some rounding out on that side, so that it would match nicely when the flat side rounded out. At first, I was concerned because she was so flat on her flat side, but after seeing the end results and how nicely shaped the back of her head ended up, I understand the reason for it. Although my daughter didn't wear a DocBand, during our evaluation with CT, the clinincian did say that my daughter had some "secondary flattening" on her good side, which appeared very normal when compared to the flat side(I had tried to reposition her from a very early age once I began to notice her her head flattening.)This could very well be true since the orthotist who treated her did indeed allow for just a tiny bit of growth in that area--just enough, so that both sides became uniformly round. Hope this helps.-AmyFrom: <jlady121@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Fri, July 16, 2010 11:38:21 PMSubject: Can the band overcorrect? Guest guest
If you feel your child is going through a growth spurt go in. I suspected my baby was (she was sleeping a lot and I saw her helmet getting tighter after just one week post adjustment) so I just went in. Sure enough I was right and My daughter grew more in one week than all other 2 week period...AND, she graduates in 2 wks!! She is 11 months and will have worn it 12 wk by graduation.
