Guest guest
We restarted the intro diet, as our son still has the loose stools, even after removing the almonds, cashews and nut flours. We started it again the day before yesterday, Tuesday. Both Tues and Wed he wouldn't eat anything except a broiled beef patty. I did give him one tsp of goat yogurt yesterday morning, to see if we could work that in. Then, yesterday at naptime, he had a " blow-out " stool in his bed, and smeared his feces all over the inside of his bed (a modified bunk bed of sorts). I had only HEARD about this wonderful thing, until now. :- o It was very runny, and super foul smelling. He has had super horrible gas since then, and non-stop " runs " , all like water consistency. He wouldn't eat anything for dinner, except apple cider/water (the only drink we give him now). Then last night, he started coughing badly at 2am. I went in, and he vomited several times over the next hour & 1/2 with him. He seemd to be cramping badly too, or maybe just naseous? He kept crying in spells, then seemd ok, crying, etc. We gave him some homeopathic Ipecac (didn't work), and then gave him Zofran (we had on hand). That seemed to help quite a bit. Then again at 5am, same thing. We got through it with the homeopathic Ipecac, and he finally went to sleep an hour later. Today, he has eaten nothing at all. Only apple cider/water. No more vomiting though. His stools TODAY have all had LOTS of this wierd mucus in them, and are all just watery. He won't eat his broiled chicken patty tonight either. Poor thing. :-( So, is this a virus or really BAD yeast die-off from re-starting the intro? What on earth? This mucus is strange, and so are the watery stools that smell so wierd, (dh says wierd septic tank smell, I think vinegary too). Also, his vomit last night was a rust color (nothing he ate?) that I first thought was blood. It was bizzare smell too. His DAN doctor is recommending Florastor to get teh diarhea under control for a bit....any thoughts on this probiotic? It is supposed to be a " healthy " yeast that eats candida? The only things he has had since tuesday are the plain ground beef broiled patties (yesterday and tues had fresh garlic too), apple cider/water mix. No supplements since yestreday morning, and then just the ASD-PLex, Dha, Jr, and regular probiotic. Any thoughts here????? Also, on another note, we just did the OAT and Yeast Culture Sensitivity Test combo. Anyone else doing these? We also did the Viral Screen, Panel 3 from Immunosciences Lab that screens for cytomegalovirus (read about THIS!), various herpes, Epstein Barr virus, etc. Has anyone else done these virus screens, and if so, did you see elevated titers for the diseases? Meleah, I know you mentioned doing Valtrex. Did you do viral screens too? Which ones? Thanks in advance - :-)
Guest guest
, We've done very few tests thus far, and no virus screens...just the standard viral titers. The stools and vomitting sound like some major die off. Many people get D during die off, and some do even vomit. The smell of both, mucous, ect. make me think it's die off. I'd just hang in there. Perhaps some of these foods that you eliminated recently were allowing some really nasty yeast and bacteria to hang on in there, and now they've finally run out of food. Keep us updated, and I wouldn't worry about him not eating at this point...he's drinking and that's what's important. Sorry I can't be more helpful with the virus and testing questions. Guest guest
This *could* be die-off.... or a virus.... or both (lucky you! ). Does he have any other symptoms.... fever, etc? The stools today sound like you are getting yeast die-off. That's what quite a few parents have reported seeing. Are you doing epsom salts baths? Activated charcoal? I think I would hold off on that ASD-Plex until he settles down a bit.... it's got a lot of Vitamin C in it, which might enhance diarrhea.... and mag citrate has that effect, too. Maybe wait a week to introduce it. What's your " regular probiotic " ? Florastor is just s.boulardii..... which is helpful against clostridia infections, if you suspect that. I have not heard of it being used to " eat yeast " , but maybe others know more about that. I'm not entirely sure the Florastor product is completely SCD legal.... it was really hard, from their website, to find out what other ingredients were in it. You'd have to read the actual product label to make sure. Patti Re-started Intro on Week 4 - Vomiting, Runs & Mucus? Guest guest
Hi , <<... he had a " blow-out " stool in his bed, and > smeared his feces all over the inside of his bed (a modified bunk bed > of sorts). What on earth? >> It may be a virus but with the timing of your intro diet restart I'd think it's more likely to be some awful die off. << His DAN doctor is recommending Florastor to get teh diarhea under > control for a bit....any thoughts on this probiotic? It is supposed > to be a " healthy " yeast that eats candida? >> When I investigated Floratsor it either had illegals or additives I wasn't able to tolerate. Just checked -it was lactose http://www.newtimrx.com/florastor.html I take Kirkman's S. boulardii. It lists only plant cellulose as the other ingredient. They are smaller capsules than the florastor (perhaps becuse they don't have the fillers). I have found the S. boulardii to work very well in getting my diarrhea under control (I have had a bad yeast problem that the S. boulardii seems to be helping very well). Some of the info I've read on S.boulardii indicates that it helps other good microbes (yogurt or probiotic bacteria) populate the bowel and push out harmful microbes. I found that taking the S. b. allowed me to tolerate yogurt again. Since then my bm's have firmed back up.
