Guest guest
Help Please! My son needs a helmet to correct Positional Plagiocephaly. Cranial Technologies DOC band was very informative but is costly and our insurance does not cover them. However, our insurance does cover OrthoAmerica Starband. Which is better?? I mean we are williing to pay out of pocket for my son to get best treatment. My gut feeling is leaning towards Cranial Technologies... any one at there have or used OrthoAmerica Starband?? Were you happy with the results? According to CT my son will need two bands which is twice the charge and with OrthoAmerica Starband its one price the whole treatment. Please advice so confused and cant decided. Thanks!
Guest guest
Hi there,We were choosing between the DOC Band and the Star Band. It was a choice between a 2-3 hour drive to CT or an hour drive for the StarBand, and the latter was also covered by our insurance (DOC was out of network). My son is now 8.5 months old, he's been in the helmet for probably 3 months now (and probably has another month to go). He was diagnosed with severe plagio/brachio and I can tell you, we ended up choosing the StarBand (after much debate, as we also wanted the best for our son and would have paid/driven far) and have had amazing results that came on really quickly. He will need only 1 helmet, which I think is a huge plus (as opposed to it sounding like he would've need 2 for CT). Our orthotist is also really great and does a lot of these helmets, which is what made me also feel very comfortable. So, I would say, go to the place that gives you the best feeling. I know the DOC band gets a ton of write ups as being so spectacular, but given my limited experience, I can't imagine having had a better experience than what I've had with the Starband, and we paid a lot less and didn't have to drive as far Good luck, whatever you choose will work wonders!!Genevieve
Guest guest
I agree completely. Although we are only 5 weeks in our band, I can see results. I was completely comfortable with our orthotist as well and she is so easy going and helpful. I think either one will do a great job, but check them out and see if you feel as comfortable with both of them.
