Guest guest
Our 4.5 month old son got his DOCband on Thursday and has had 5 days and 4 nights in it now, which has meant 5 days of horrible or missed naps and 4 nights of waking (at least)every hour crying. My former good sleeper, who I used to be able to put down drowsy & would sleep through the night, now is requiring hours of rocking and nursing to sleep and I'm exhausted! I know he needs an adjustment period to get used to sleeping in his band, so someone PLEASE tell me this gets easier!!! His band fits well and doesn't cause him any discomfort when he's not lying down, but the moment I put him in his bassinet, he becomes inconsolable. At this point, I'm not sure if it's the band or just being over-tired. I'm reluctant to have him cry it out since he's never had to in the past and gets extremely hot with the band on. I'm also worried that this will lead to bad habits that are going to difficult to break. Does anyone have any suggestions or experiences they'd like to share about helping him through this adjustment period? Words of encouragement are also appreciated. Thanks! Guest guest
With my son, he cried alot on the beginning too. Have you tried putting him on his tummy? Does he roll yet? What worked for my son was for naps I put him on his tummy and for night I put two pillows horizontal one above and one below. i placed him on the top pillow so his butt went in the crack so he wouldnt be able to scoot down (sorry if this makes NO sense). I have no idea how pillows made the difference but he slept like a baby from there on. Once he started rolling I had to take the pillows away bc it wasnt safe then. HOpe this helps so sorry about no sleep! From: ciao_bellina26 <adriennesuster@...>Subject: Please Tell Me Sleep Gets Easier!Plagiocephaly Date: Monday, October 18, 2010, 1:32 PM Our 4.5 month old son got his DOCband on Thursday and has had 5 days and 4 nights in it now, which has meant 5 days of horrible or missed naps and 4 nights of waking (at least)every hour crying. Guest guest
I actually have a related question if anyone here can help. Should we put a little support (a long but narrow pillow) under the baby's neck since I think when the baby lies down with the band there's a gas between the bed and the neck, I hope it won't hurt the baby's spine/cervical vertibra.. Plus I think the baby does sleep better with the pillow. I asked the orthotist, he said it should be absolutely nothing under the baby's head except for the band, but I'm still not sure if it's more because of SID. My dad is a long time doctor, he said it's best if the neck gets proper support during sleep. Any experienced suggestions? Guest guest
I would love some help with this too! Our son has had the Doc band for 4 weeks on Wednesday and I have had lots of sleepless nights. My son, too, was a great sleeper before the band and now he wakes up about 2-4 times a night. The only thing that I have found to help him is to lay him on a pillow, so his head is actually propped up. This is very unsafe so I have been sleeping on the floor right next to him. Other then that, he doesn't sleep for extended periods of time. Oh, the other thing we tried was putting a pillow under his pack and play sheet, so he would have more cushion; however, he would move off the pillow at night, so it didn't work. Like I said above, I sleep on the floor with him with a pillow under his head. Let's just say I am counting down the weeks until we both get to sleep through the night!!!!! I can't wait!!! Maybe you could try sleeping him in the car seat. This position seems to be comfortable with my little guy, but he won't sleep in there all night. > > > I actually have a related question if anyone here can help.
