Guest guest
Kim, It's very strange, I think, that so many of us have the same problems with their veins. Mine are very tight, and they roll, or they will give blood for a few seconds, and then quit dead. I've had four that have been completely blown and are completely inaccessable now. Many times I've had to be downright rude to a nurse that won't believe me and wants to stick me in a bad vein anyway, saying, " oh, but that one looks so good, I know " I " can get it! " , as though she was some kind of needle queen. I even had one that tried it against my protests, anyway, when my head was turned, and then when she couldn't get a drop, she blamed it on a faulty needle! My record is only 8 at one time, but there's been more occasions of 4-5 sticks at a time than I can even remember. The worst was when the IC nurses called in an IV Specialist, and he spent ONE HOUR sticking me trying to put in a PICC line. He said that he'd never failed before and it took it as some kind of a challenge. He had sweat dripping from his forehead, his hands were shaking and my hand and arm felt like raw meat, when he finally admitted defeat. I was still so dehydrated from my DKA that there was no way they were going to be able to put it that PICC, and they never did. I've heard so many here talk about the same type of problems that it's really odd......as though our CP had something to do with it? I had blood drawn today for a full panel, and the nurse's eyes zeroed in on my bad vein that looks so " good " in the center of my elbow. I talked her out of it, but it still took 3 attempts elsewhere before she found one that worked! Speaking of sticks, it's time for my nightly insulin. Good thing I don't need a vein for that, isn't it? With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Griffeth Bluffton, SC South Carolina State Rep.
