Guest guest
Suzi, glad to be of help. I am having either my 6th or 7th celiac plexus block on Monday. I've lost count! I had an appt with my rheumatologist today. She read the letter from Mayo and we talked about my 'not so great' experience there. In the letter they said that they felt a lot of my pain was from SOD but they couldn't prove it because they were unable to the manometry test because of my gastric bypass. (because my intestines are now routed differently, the scopes are not made long enough to reach my pancreas or even get into my bile duct. They said it could be done surgically by using a PEG and then going in that way and doing the test. They did say that I might benefit from being put on a calcium channel blocker as that has been successful with some people in helping with the pain of SOD. She gave me a prescription for a low dose of cardizem. I was so aggravated with the trip to Mayo that I really have never bothered to closely read a lot of the paperwork they mailed me after the trip, so I didn't remember reading anything about the calcium channel blocker. I'm just wondering if anyone else has ever heard of using a calcium channel blocker for SOD and if so, was it successful? W
