I couldn't wait to share this with this group. I'm not a very active participant

I know but I am always reading. is almost 18 and has Down Syndrome and

Autism. She's been on SCD for 3 years. We saw immediate improvement and then

some ups and downs later on mainly due to my numerous nervous breakdowns LOL.

Anyway they were all set to send her for a combo endo/colonoscopy and we, after

a long process met with the doctor himself (like getting an audience with the

Pope). He's the only peds GI for a 500 mile radius and is overwhelmingly in

demand and a great guy. Usually we see nurse practitioners etc. Yesterday dh

grilled me on 's diet and had all the info with him so when the doc asked

him about her diet dh mentioned SCD. The doc sais " oh? a low carb diet??? " and

dh went into his Elaine schpeil (sp?) when the doc broke in and asked " is that

from that book about something something vicious cycle? "

dh said yes and the doctor was so enthusiastic. He said he had absolutely no

data to prove that the diet worked but he knew for a fact that it did as he had

several patients he had worked with for years and was unable to help who

discovered the diet on their own and had healed themselves or their children. He

was amazed that we were able to maintain it and do all the work for so long and

he praised us up and down!! It was such a validation that I just had to share it

with you all. He told us not to worry if we were going to continue on this SCD

path! First time I've even run into a doc who is familiar with it let alone so

supportive.

Anyway, just thought I'd let you know.

Wow, Sherry. Three years! Good for you and your family. That is really

impressive. Thanks for being an inspiration (to us AND to the GI doc!).

All the best,

Ellen
