Guest guest
I don't know if there is actually a test for asthma. My daughter has never had an attack. She has had situations when she was first diagnosed that she was wheezing really bad and they gave her a shot and it opened her airways so she could breath. With asthma I think there are varying degrees just like there are with CF. Tina W., mother of , 18yo wcf Re: asthma and cf Did they actually do a test do diagnose it, or did they just go off the fact that he had CF and along with it comes asthma? Has he ever had an asthma attack? I'm just trying to find out how they medically diagnose. My dad has asthma, along with his twin sister, and when they have attacks, you know it. I'm just not seeing the same signs in my daughter as I see with the other people in my family. She has a cough, but don't all people with CF? I'm not in denial, but they're just not selling me on the fact that she has it. Tracey mom to Sydney almost 3 w/cf asthma and cf We were told, way back when was diagnosed with " reactive airway disease " or asthma, that 50% of cfers have an asthma component to their illness. One seems to go with the other. Dori Ownbey... " If I haven't grown up by now, I'm never going to. "
Guest guest
Traci is treated for asthma also. She is on Advair and Singulair. She has never had an attack but I do hear her wheeze when she has an infection. Sometimes she has what sounds like a post-nasal drip cough and her doc says that is an asthma cough. She has also been on prednisone when she is hospitalized on IVs. Guest guest
Hi Tina, I think you are right here. My daughter was dxed with CF at 8 months, and with asthma at 9 years. We saw an allergy/asthma specialist and she had allergy tests (she is highly allergic to many things ie: dust, molds, pollen, grass, trees, cats, yes dogs (we have always had dogs, she deals with it) She was also diagnosed with asthma. She wheezes sometimes. I think that if a person wheezes with exertion or infections they have asthma or Reactive airway disease (RAD) as they like to call it now. I think RAD and asthma are the same thing. am I wrong? doesn't wheeze very often, she uses flovent and does pretty well. Also, like your daughter, she has never had an asthma attack where we had to rush to the hospital. She has needed to do an extra treatment (albuterol/Intal)a few times due to wheezing. -oh yeah the allergist put her on the Intal(cromolyn sodium) w/albuterol instead of normal saline for her breathing treatments and we have stuck with that, I feel it is really helpful for . That has done the trick for her,. I guess she has " Mild " asthma. (oh no here we go again!!)She has been on prednisone a few times, short bursts for asthma and once for several months for aspergillus. love, M mom of Nick age 21 nocf, age 19 wcf and Lucy age 1, very furry RE: asthma and cf I don't know if there is actually a test for asthma. Guest guest
Steph is on Advair daily for her asthma. She used to be on Theodur until a year ago and they took her off of it and the rest of the year went down hill from there. She has been doing very well on Advair. She started out on the 500/50 but is now on the 250/50. She only uses an inhaler as needed which I would say is seldom. Her asthma seems to be under good control. Tina W. Guest guest
My nephew has asthma. He used to have attacks regularly, but now it is usually just a cough. It sounds different than a CF cough.
