Guest guest
Suzi, The amount of income you make does not inflluence your elegibility for Social Security Disability Income. If you have a qualified disability impairment, you could receive SSDI, whether you earn $200,000 a year or $20,000 a year. Please remember that when you next consider applying. Perhaps you have this confused with Social Security Disibility Supplement Income, (SSDSI), which IS awarded relative to the income (or lack of it), that a couple makes, and can be applied for once a person has been awarded their Social Security Disability benefits. Criteria for elegibility for SSDI is based on the number of points a person has earned by working for a concurrent number of years of employment, and is based solely on one applicant's record of earnings. Once the determinination is made that the applicant can receive SSDI, he or she can apply for Supplemental Income, if the COMBINED earnings of the applicant and their spouse do not exceed a specified amount. This usually applies to people whose combined income level is low compared to national standards. At the time of my initial application, we did NOT qualify for Supplemental Income, due to the income my husband was earning with his airline job at that time. It may be that by the time I'm awarded SSDI, (if I am), his income will have fallen to the point that we could qualify. Or it could be that we would qualify at some later date, if things continue downhill as they have been. A person can apply for the Supplemental Income at a later date, if their income level has greatly diminished since the initial award, fortunately, that option is always available. You were correct, I did apply initially on my own, without an attorney. I only hired the attorney after I was turned down the first time. I was too tired at that point to start all over and keep up with all the paperwork on my own. Thanks for your prayers, every one will count. With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H.
