It takes at least a year to recover but you will start feeling better little by little. I was told there are so many nerves that have to heal and the sternum is a tender place to begin with. My Rheumy seems to think that my open heart surgery was related to RP. That was the removal an an Atrial Myxoma. I get echos all the time.
