Guest guest
Hi, Dawn, I had some kind of renal scan done about 8 years ago. It was a nuclear scan of some kind. Didn't hurt, but think I was pretty well sedated at the time. They had found a blockage in my right renal artery and in several veins. It was something called fibromuscular dysplasia. (muscle tissue growing in the artery-I guess). My bp had gotten real high and that is why they did the test. It was done at the hospital in Spokane. The odd part is was that I had suffered for years with high bp and had been on all sorts of bp medication and it wouldn't come down. They did angio plasty first and discovered the blockage and did the ballon thing to open it up and after that is when they did the nuclear scan to see if things were flowing through better. Obviously, that was why the bp was so high because after the procedure, I have never had to take anything for my bp since. They had told me that they couldn't open the veins, just the artery, and if it closed up again I would have to go to Baylor in Texas where they can replace that artery. I asked how I would know if it closed up and they said my bp would get real high and wouldn't come down with bp meds. According to things I have read, ballon surgery only lasts for a few years, but it has been 8 years for me and I still have real low bp. Love and hugs, Marilyn
