Guest guest
Hi ! Yes, my insurance company is investigating this now. We are waiting for the clinic that provided care to this woman using my name to get back to them. We are hoping that the physical characteristics that are charted for her are very different from me (hopefully she will be 5'8 " and weigh 200lbs!)...or her appointment time is the same as mine with Dr Lehman so we use the logic that I couldn't be at two places at the same time to refute the claim that this woman is really me. I never thought that my missing ovary and gallbladder as well as that hideous scar down my abdomen would be needed to prove that I am " me " . I doubt that this woman, even if she has a superficial resemblance to me, will have the left ovary missing, no gallbladder and a crooked, off centered, wide, white abdominal scar. Boy I sure hope I don't have to use my surgeon as a expert witness to testify that he was the one who made that scar! LOL!!!! The fact that we are being billed from a clinic and doctor not associated with IU hospital, the fact that the clinic has all my pertinent information (DOB, SS#, address, all of my insurance policies, etc) and that there seems to be a filled in medical chart showing that a woman with my name received care at this clinic is suspicious for an impersonator rather than a clerical error. If the name was inconsistent with the insurance information, we would be leaning more towards this being a human error....but it is that chart thing.....and the fact that the clinic isn't even a part of the Clarian health system is pointing towards this being a deliberate fraud. I do not think it is IU's fault....unless it is the registration area that is selling or giving away patient information so that un-insured people can get medical care. I know that I had lots of problems in the registration area...it took her almost 20 minutes to get my informaton inputted (after several attempts) and then when I had the GI clinic check it the next day - because I was not impressed with the woman's ability, the information that the registration clerk put in was wrong.........All of this is looking less innocent now.......... We had something similar happen here at work some time ago....with automatic check deposits. Someone in HR was selling account information, job descriptions, etc so that people could get credit cards and loans and stuff. Just never thought of the same thing applying to health insurance, but if you think about it, what could be easier to do..... and I would think it would be very lucartive for an underpaid registration clerk. If we confirm that there is an imposter out there, we will change my insurance policy number and close out the account that is using my current number. We just want to confirm this first before going through the hassle of having to re-ID me. And I am hoping that we can use my old account to catch the person, if she is out there. The one good thing is that if this imposter continues to be me....then maybe I won't have CP after all!!!!! Cause if she is me....and she has a healthy pancreas....then it must be that that me is really me too. Get it? LOL! Spooky................
