Guest guest
Hi Patti: My son does eat fruits and veggies, he eats pears, bananas, mangos, broccoli, avacado, squash, apples, chicken, turkey, meat and chicken pancakes. He also eats pancakes which are made from pecan flour so he does gets a variety of foods, not just protein but he is still having a gut problem. We tried Vit K but he got a huge rash, and I had to stop it because he was going to have an endoscopy and I didn't want them to reschedule because of this rash, I wanted him healthy. I do restrict tomatoe and citrus fruits per his GI doc, it can irritate his stomach. Do people who give there kids Vit K don't need to supplement with calicum? Thanks Jeanne Patti wrote: Well, I never like to hear of an SCD kid eating " high protein " .... since this diet was never intended to be that. So many of them do tend toward eating way too much meat and eggs.... and not enough fruit and veggies.... they end up constipated, acidic and in trouble. Does your son not eat very much vegetables and fruits? Are there any plant foods that you're restricting for other reasons? Looking at your list of supps, my first thought was that maybe the enzymes are causing a problem, and I guess the doc must have thought so, too. We know that some other SCDers with inflammatory conditions have to use extreme caution with enzymes. It just depends on the individual. ly, I think the kids do best with very few supps on board, until much healing has happened with the basic diet.... with a good balance of all the legal foods. And I personally don't like the idea of supplementing calcium for any kid on the spectrum, now that I know what I know about calcium management and the vitamin K protocol from Tamaro. I don't know if that can contribute to inflammation, though. I would highly recommend the bone broths... though I know you're not supposed to change anything right now, diet-wise. my two cents.. Patti, moderator.... about to dash out the door for the weekend. Endoscopy Partial Results and Questions Hi: Our 7yo son had a 2nd endoscopy done and the GI doctor still found inflammation in the stomach lining and the Duodenum. GI doctor told us that the SCDiet might have to be modified as well as some vitamin supplements and enzymes. Please note I am not knocking down any diet or vitamin supplement but want to find out what is best for my son. He has been on the SCDiet for almost 3 years, which it did help his diarrhea, he eats everything organic, only drinks water all his supplements are hypoallergic, from either Kirkman, Thorne, Pure Encapsulation and VRP. The reason for doing the endoscopy is because he was still getting yeast despite the special diet, yeast protocol and chelation. Come to find out the inflammation was worse than it was when he had the 1st endoscopy so even though the diet helped with the diarrhea it hasn't helped his inflammation. I also want to know if the supplements that I'm giving him cause any GI problems. Kirkman: CoQ10, Buffered Magnesium Glynicate, Vit E, Molybendum, Enzyme Complete w/Iogest Houston: No-Fenol Enzyme Thorne: Citrimin II, Folapro VRP: Zinc Mono., Grape Seed Extract, Calicum Citrate, L-Carnitine, Vit D Pure Encapsulation: DHA/EPA, Vit A Natrol: Ester-C(gentle formula) GI doc told us not to change diet or supplements until the blood work and biopsies tests are completed. He did advise us to stop all enzymes use. Our DAN doc told us we might also have to modified the diet because the high protein might also be causing some inflammation, but also wants to wait to change anything until the all the test results come in. Any comments or advise will be appreciated, once again nothing against any diet or supplements but every child is different and if I need to change something I will. Thank you.
