Hi Yvonne,

I don't think you'll get flamed by anyone on this list. You are really

smart to do your homework and no matter what you decide I wish you luck.

I have to tell you that I was on this list back when was the

biggest advocate of the Mini-Gastric Bypass. She flamed anyone who said

anything negative about MGB and blasted people right and left for raising

doubts about this surgery.

I don't know the whole story, but she started posting that she was losing

slowly. She also posted about all of the foods she was eating (a lot) and

how many times she was dumping. She said she tended to push the envelope a

lot. Then she went to have some tests done and found that her esophageous

was enlarged and this allowed her to eat more food than normal MGB post op.

This was not due to the MGB and to my knowledge no other MGB post op has had

this problem.

THEN she started asking for a revision, but she was only about 4 months post

op. She asked Dr Rutledge to hire her to work for him and he said no. It

seems that that is when the crap really hit the fan. She started posting

really mean and nasty stuff and finally was denied access to the list

although she is forwarded all the posts from other people. She emails many

preops and postops threatening notes. She created the MGB-Truth site and

totally revamped her web page from Dr Rutledge is a God to Dr Rutledge

busted.

I did a web search using 's name. I was shocked to find that

she had a lot of negative articles written about her-you might want to take

a look. It was then that I decided that she is a very sick woman. It is a

fact that 3% of MGB patients end up not being happy with their results.

That means that there are about 29 other unhappy post ops you could talk to

if you wanted to. Although is an unhappy post op I don't think she is

a good source of information regarding this surgery.

If you want to do reseach on MGB there are a lot of other sources to use

including doctors, surgeons, nurses, post ops, etc. You should note that

there are many post ops who are nurses, doctors, wives of doctors, dentists,

lawyers, professors, teachers and a lot of other professionals. Do you

really think you are the only one to research this? One lady who recently

had MGB went thru hell doing the research to convince her father who was

some kind of medical professor. blasted her for questioning MGB.

That lady and her father did a lot of research and she decided to have the

MGB.

I was not afraid to read what the " other " bariatric surgeons were saying

about MGB. I would also actually like to read what " other " surgeons were

saying about RNY back when it was first developed. I would venture to guess

that there was not a lot of support from surgeons who were doing other WLS.

I honestly don't know about long term MGB effects yet-Dr Rutledge has only

been doing this surgery for 3 years. I do know about long term obesity

complications. I also knew that I wanted a surgery that was easily

reversible if the need arose. Ask your surgeon about that. You might also

note that there are 6-8 other surgeons who are learning MGB from Dr Rutledge

right now and at least 2 other surgeons are already performing MGB in other

parts of the country.

Again, whatever you decide I wish you the best. This is absolutely a

support group for WLS no matter what kind. Questions are welcome and I am

sure this is not the only post you'll get in response. If you are truly

here to find information and do more research then you are at the right

spot!

Best Regards,

Donna Schanzenbacher
