Guest guest
The packing was taken out 3 hours AFTER surgery - it was pure hell for Dylan. Tell them to let him breathe in through the tubing NOT the MASK......Last year the mask totally freaked Dylan out. After he was under they put in the IV and covered it with guaze. Make sure he gets vitamin K - its for CLOTTING and very impt. if panscreatic insufficent...... Ask about follow-up antibodic, ask about getting a sputum sample from the lungs while he is under and about culturing what is in his sinus'. Afterwards 3X day we must irrigate his nose - with salt water & baking soda. It works BEST if he does it and he has - I think its a control thing...... Sorry for being so long=winded. I am sure you know it but sometimes we all forget! Good luck...... Rosemary in NY with 3 children (13, 11 and 7) with CF. My son's surgeon doesn't put in packing and he is discharged the day of the surgery. He doesn't have us irrigate until the first office visit which is 3-4 days after the surgery. jan
