Guest guest
Lnd, It's excellent that your son was fortunate enough to have the camera test done to look at his pancreas. Where was this done? This should show whether there has been any changes to the damaged areas. Your comment that the head was damaged was intriquing, what exactly did you mean by damage? Is there calcification, or a pseudocyst? Constipation is a common threat for those of us that have to take a lot of pain medication. All the narcotics cause constipation, and most of us have to take extra precautions to avoid this. I had horrible problems with it, much like your son's, until I was given a prescription for Miralax, which I take now every third day, to help keep my motility running smoothly. Once pancreatitis becomes chronic, it's not at all unusual to have an episode that lasts for days, or weeks, sometimes, where there is daily discomfort and pain from the irritated pancreas. If your son has been suffering since August, I suspect that he may need better pain management, and he may need a higher dose of pancreatic enzymes than what he's presently taking. He also needs to be following a strict low-fat diet.....that's something that I suspect would be very challenging for a 28 year old male, but it's the key to keeping the pain episodes at a minimum. Usually, if you can get your pain under control by the correct amounts of pain medication, the CP calms down. If your son isn't already seeing a Pain Management doctor, I would suggest that he consult one, in addtion to seeing his Gastroenterologist. Many gastro's are reluctant to prescribe the types of drugs that are best for treating the severe pain that CPer's go through, so most of us are referred to a Pain Mangement doctor or clinic for this. I hope the tests bring back some definitive answers for his current problems. Please update us with what the tests show, and please post again if you have any questions.
