Guest guest
I don't think all states have a temporary disability insurance. As far as I know, there is no such thing in Alabama. Of course, that's one of the reasons our property taxes are almost non-existent. (about $300 per year for a $100,000 home) We tend to have few 'state sponsored' types of assistance and those that we do have, you typically have to have a VERY low family income (less than $20,000 or so a year) to qualify. I suppose it's all a trade off. It's nice to have such low property taxes but it would also be nice to have easier access to assistance if you need it. Oh, well, such is life. I was fortunate to be able to get a disability retirement from my job as a federal government employee. There are many, many people who don't have that option. Believe me, it's not a benefit that I take lightly. A day does not go by that I don't say a prayer of thanks that things have not been worse for me financially, medically, and emotionally (as far as having supportive family, friends, and doctors). Guest guest
, actually, California's is a short-term disability insurance. My mistake on putting the word temporary. My memory isn't the greatest these days. And I completely understand about the job sponsored disability insurance (similar to your disability retirement). I don't know what I would have done without mine since my SSDI isn't a whole lot. And I thank my employer very much for having the option. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@...
