Guest guest
Welcome to the group. From what I know there are no good studies to prove that CST is effective for treating plagio. I have heard success stories, for the most part in conjunction with banding, but some without. If the plagio is mild and you can take time to " wait and see " if it works, then CST may be fine to try (but take pictures as others have suggested). However if plagio is more severe I would recommend banding. Banding does have studies to show it is effective and is the more accepted treatment for plagio. The idea of putting a band/helmet on your baby may be overwhelming at first, but babies adjust quickly, and are still adorable. Also it is possible to start seeing improvement in a week or two, which helps reassure us that we are doing the right thing. -christine sydney, 4.5 yrs, starband grad > > My LO (6 months) just got diagnosed with plagiocephaly. Guest guest
Thanks for the advice. We start CS Therapy this week while letting letting the paperwork go to the ins. company to see if they will approve the STAR band. If noticeable improvements are made then we may not need the latter but we'll see what the ins. says. I'll stat taking pics this week.LyrisFrom: christineashok <christineashok@...>Subject: Re: Anyone tried cranial sacral therapy for their baby?Plagiocephaly Date: Sunday, June 27, 2010, 8:23 AM Welcome to the group. Guest guest
We did CST for about a month and a half. Mikey improved in the two-steps-forward-one-step-back format for the first month, then he stalled. He may be unique because he has a sensory disorder, but, based on my experience alone, I think of CST as a mildly helpful addition while not a complete alternative. I do think CST is great in other scenarios, though.
Guest guest
Hi , Where do you buy an organic memory foam crib mattress? From: graffnin <graffnin@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Thu, July 1, 2010 2:30:21 PMSubject: Re: Anyone tried cranial sacral therapy for their baby? We had a CST practitioner in town that is also a pediatrician. So I decided to go to her - thinking it wouldn't make things worse. We also started PT during the same time and began vigorous repositioning. I didn't notice a change in the head shape, but I did notice a change in the torticollis, but because we did so much during that time I can't say it was any one particular thing. He did seem to enjoy the sessions and I noticed a difference in his affect. He seemed more calm the rest of the day after a session. But by the time he was 5 months, we decided we didn't see a big enough change after all we had done and opted for the helmet. Our thought was "when he is a teen, how can we honestly tell him we tried everything except the common treatment." We did notice a difference with the helmet in just 2 weeks. Course we also bougt a different mattress - organic memory form. To this day I am glad I did everything. His head still isn't perfectly round, but it is better than it had been and it isn't as noticeable. If you know what you are looking for it is noticeable, but if you don't no one can see it. Sorry I can't be more helpful. I'm sure you will make the best decision you can. Get referrals and research research research!Take care,> > >> > > My LO (6 months) just got diagnosed with plagiocephaly. I want to > > try cranial sacral therapy before helmet therapy.
