Guest guest
Reading many recent posts about SOD (including Laurie's 1/10 in which she refers to biliary collic attacks) I began to wonder if that could be the cause of the periodic pain attacks I have experienced about once every week or so, lasting for a day or two. These startied about 2 months after my initial acute pancreatitis attack, but have been less severe the past two months. The pain is centered at bottom of rib cage about 3 inches left of center, and I can feel a lump at that point. In some episodes this pain radiates to center and right of center. After 4 to 8 hours, the pain begins to subside but a " stomachache " - like pain then begins in lower abdomen which persists for a day or two. At these times I usually don't feel like eating and skip a meal and/or eat lightly for a few meals. Between these attacks I have only slight pain (and tenderness to touch) at that same central point. The GI surgeon I see and the GI endoscopic specialist seem only concerned about my large pseudocysts. Neither has ever mentioned SOD and neither had any explanation for why pain occurs at these weekly or biweekly intervals. I asked if my cysts could build up pressure which is periodically released through the duct, but they denied that. Heidi mentioned in her 12/27 response that my symptms suggest I may be headed for full burnout of my pancreas. In any case, since I know little about SOD, I'd be interested in knowing whether my symptoms correspond at all with those diagnosed with SOD, including what the intervals are at which they experience them. As I mentioned in my 1/6 post, updating my 12/25 post, I am scheduled for an ERCP on 1/26 at the request of the surgeon on the off-chance that one or two pseudocysts communicate with the pancreas duct, but if that's unsuccessful I may decide to delay surgery if my pain attacks remain mild. I'm hoping more knowledge about their cause may help me in that decision. Regarding Heidi & 's comments on Underactive Thyroid, I'd like to mention that I also was on synthroid for mild hypothyroid for 6 months before my pancreatitis attack, andI still take it. And congratulations, Heidi on getting your disability award! Also, for last month I'm having splitting fingernails--top layer keeps breaking loose from lower layer. I am trying some Citracal. Have appointment with my PCP a few days after the ERCP and will ask him if can test for a fungus, but would appreciate any suggestions I feel I am luckier than many members as I read their messages. At least I have a great support group in my wife & family, my bible study group at church, and especially my Lord. Kurt
