Guest guest
Hi, I got this from another site. Shana had to be rushed back into the O.R. right after her tx. she is experiencing " graft rejection " and has a 50/50 chance right now. the doc's said that if her stats continued to drop, she would probably not make it. However the stats did improve back up to 100%. It sounds like things are still really shaky right now though. Her new lungs are swollen and her chest has been left open so they can expand. She has been medically paralized so her body doesn't have to exert any effort. keep thinking of her please.
Guest guest
This is what you all want to here!!Read down below!! love & hugs, grandmomBev Shana Hi again! Almost 4 days after the transplant, Shana remains in the ICU, but is now holding steady with all her numbers. After closing her chest (finally!) yesterday at 9:30 AM, she has been tolerating the lungs much better than the first attempt. We knew she wouldn't give up that easily! They surgeon says she is now at the point he would have hoped for after the initial surgery. So, after a small delay, she is on her way! They have begun weaning her off of the paralytic meds to see how her numbers respond to greater bodily workloads. After this third surgery (1st-transplant, 2nd- re-open chest- 3rd, re-close chest) to close her up, they had to temporarily increase her oxygen back to 100% but they are now back down to 45%. Everyone who knows Shana knows her as very pale..not anymore! Since she now has lungs that are functioning, she has rosy cheeks! Who would have thought she'd look even better laying in her hospital bed post transplant than before!!?! We can't wait for her first moments of re-consciousness. There is so much we want to tell her that has happened in such a short time! Thanks, again, for the wonderful support networks going on out there. God has been hearing all of our prayers! Also, another newspaper article is being printed in tomorrow's Philadelphia Inquirer. They say there is a color section with pics of her heart and lungs... We'll see what makes it in the article. Until next time, Desirea
