Guest guest
I know this is a really common question and concern of many parents, but what are the pros and cons of Cranial Technologies vs. Hanger Orthotics? My son is 6.5 months old and ready to move forward with a fitting for his band. For many reasons I'm very torn as to which company to move forward with... Thanks, Jenn
Guest guest
I went for consults at both Starband & Hanger (the one in Towson, MD)...not Cranial Tech. However, I chose Starband over Hanger. My main reason for this is because, they had only been doing bands for 2 years & the orthotist had only ever treated 10 children in that time period. I don't know, it made me uneasy. I know they deal w/ a lot of other issues that just infant plagio, however, it made me more comfortable going somewhere, where they focus only on infants treatment. Guest guest
Here's what I've gathered from reading people's posts. Just FYI, I used Cranial Tech and didn't have Hanger as an option in my area. Cranial Tech - Pro's: -Specializes in bands and doesn't offer other orthotics, so they know a lot about the topic. -Clinicians all receive the same training, so treatment is more consistent than at some other helmet providers. -Physical therapists do adjustments, so they can help with PT issues, such as showing you stretches for torticollis, if needed. -The DOC Band is lighter and more open than other brands. -Participates with Care Credit (google it for more info) Con's: -The band is lighter because it's thinner. That means babies outgrow it more quickly than other brands. More severe cases and older babies tend to need two helmets, which is very expensive. There's no discount for the second helmet. -Each helmet is more expensive than other providers. $3,800 each From what I gather, some other brands participate with more insurance companies than Cranial Tech does. Hanger - Pro's: -Less expensive -Less likely to need two helmets -Closer to home? -May participate with your insurance provider? Con's: -Is the orthotist good? How much experience does he have with bands? -Helmet is less open and more bulky -Orthotist will not be able to make physical therapy recommendations Hope that helps. If I forgot anything, please do let Jenn know. > > I know this is a really common question and concern of many parents, but what are the pros and cons of Cranial Technologies vs. Hanger Orthotics?
