Guest guest
Sounds like another loser orthotist... where are you? The classic loser orthotist strategy is to cut away enough helmet (shell and/or lining) to make it look like a bad helmet fits, even though it does not. If you want to argue to have the helmet remade, call Orthomerica -- contact info is in their FAQ. (Ponder that.) If applicable, quote back to them their " two weeks of loose fit " guideline from the FAQ, two points above the contact info. It certainly does stand to reason that there should be a holding point on the most prominent temporal bulge in a brachy helmet, rather than a cut-away! http://www.orthomerica.com/products/cranial/faq_parents.htm#faq21 Now's also a good time to run back to CT, if you want to re-do your " time and bother " calculations. Their helmets seem to fit better, are adjusted more precisely, and thus take less time to work. I chose to stick it out, personally, and we didn't get good results. The second helmet came back just as loose as the first one, so even more growth was missed. -- Thad Launderville town, VT Clara age 2 1/2 went to Willow Brook Prosthetics in Lebanon, NH On Dec 23, 2010, at 1:34 AM, b_carranza12 wrote: > My son will be 7 months old tomorrow and has been in his starband > for three weeks now. Guest guest
Brittany, I agree with Thad. I would run to CT if your Starband provider doesn't come as recommended form the parents on this board. The fist band my son wore was such a waist of precious time! I am so happy I switched to Doc Band when my son was 11 months. We also had to fly to Chicago every two weeks and then every three weeks because there is no CT in Minneapolis. It was worth it! Hope this helps. Before deciding on the starband we had a consultation at CT but due to the distance we would have to travel to their facility, we ended up going with our local orthitist. My son has brachycephaly with a little bit of plagio also. My concern is that he has buldging right over both ears. CT said that this was fairly common in babies with brachy, but the local orthotist we are going to said he has never seen it. So...when my son first got his helmet, the orthostist made some marks on the band so that adjustments could be made. It was a little too low around his eyes and he made the space around the ear bigger. When he shaved off the part around the ear, he just happened to leave the part exposed where my son has the bulging. I mentioned it to him and he said we would "watch" it. I have noticed it getting worse! I'm not sure what I should do. Has anyone ever dealt with this, or did/does your child have the same type of bulging? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
