Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I'm , Darren's wife. I wanted to give you all an update on Darren's surgery. He had the surgery as scheduled on Friday, September 24th. We got to Fairview Medical Center at 6:20 a.m. and the surgery started at 7:45 a.m. I finally got to see him in ICU at 8:00 p.m. that evening. He looked really tough and he felt really tough. Initially the nurses had a tough time getting his pain under control. He is on Diladid. He handles that pain medicine really well. They had him sitting up on Saturday morning in a chair and then moved him to a regular floor on Saturday afternoon. He doesn't remember a whole lot from the start of the surgery up through Sunday. He also had a tough time with his vision. The only conclusion that the nurses and doctors came up with was the prednezone that they gave him during the surgery. Blurred vision is a side affect. His vision is now back to normal as of today. As of now he isn't diabetic. He will have to take one to two shots a day of regular insulin until the islet cells kick in fully. The doctor said that his pancreas was much worse then they thought. They received 105,000 islet cells and they wanted at least 200,000 to 650,000. The doctor said that 105,000 was good though for Darren. My hubby has been a trooper through this surgery. He has been very patient with the doctors and nurses. He has had to put up with a lot of error on some of the nurses part. Overall he is right on schedule according to Dr. Sutherland. Have and excellent evening.
