Hi, all! I hope this is the right place. My young sons and I are all celiacs

from the DC area.

My husband may be taking a job in the Santa Clara area. I don't know anything

about

California qeography, so I'm not sure if this is the right group. I was

diagnosed over 6 years

ago, so I know where to go for GF grocery items, as well as resturants and

doctors. How easy

is it to get GF foods, like Wellshire Kids GF chicken nuggets, glutino pretzels,

ect? Are there

doctors and pediatricians that are familar with celiac? Are the public schools

willing to work

with celiac and food allergic students? The answers to some of these questions

will influence

DH's job choice. Thanks!

I am from Santa Cruz and don't know much specifically about the Santa Clara/ San area, but in general there are lots of celiac resources and many good health food stores in the area. They generally carry a good selection of GF pastas, breads, cookies, and crackers. I don't know of any places that carry the chicken nuggets or pretzels you mentioned. I do know that you can order the pretzels on line from celiac.com. There are good pediatric gastros at Stanford University. Also, you could contact some of the local ROCK (Raising Our Celiac Kids) groups (see below for info).

PS, Be sure to check out local real estate prices in considering your move. The housing market in the Santa Clara area is pretty tough to get into, so you may end up having to actually live in a different area where housing is more affordable, so you should check out those communities as well for celiac resources.

I just moved FROM Santa Clara county to Greensboro, NC. Let me tell you -

it is so much easier to find GF food in CA then on the east coast. You will

be amazed. In the Mountain View Palo Alto area there is like 4 Trader Joes

and 2 or 3 Whole Foods. Your going to love it. I truly miss CA:) Dr. Gray

at Stanford is STILL my Celiac doctor - I fly back to CA to see him because

he ROCKS! Good luck,

I just came fro there and they said sorry.

I found some stuff at a litlle store nearby.

I still need to try whole foods.

That's good to know. Where I am, there are 3 Whole Foods in my

county and 2 Trader Joes, with another one opening next month.

However, none of these stores compare to My Organic Market, which

carries neat stuff like glutano oreo-type cookies, GF Kit-Kat type

candy bars, GF frozen pizzas and fish sticks.

I have to say, I would love to find frozen gf fish sticks and chicken nuggets, but never knew that anyone made them. I am not sure if any local stores carry anything like this, and I don't know if they are available by mail order, so you may be leaving those items behind if you move to this area. I am interested in finding out if they are available by mail order, so can you give me a bit more info on who/where they are made?

I stopped by Whole Foods in , California, just a couple of days ago to see if they carried Ian's g-f Frozen Fish Sticks and Chicken Nuggets. Whole Foods carries the Ian's line of products, but not these two g-f products. I asked the man stocking the shelf if they carried these two g-f products, and he said no, but that I should talk with the frozen food manager and they could probably order me some. I haven't called because I interpret this to mean that I would have to probably buy an entire case of the g-f fish sticks and chicken nuggets and I don't know if I even would like them!! I looked at Ian's website, and the products do look good, though.

I wrote directly to a few days ago introducing myself as the co-leader (of sorts) of the Bay Area ROCK group, and telling her about our group. I also told her that Whole Foods out here carries Wellshire Kids chicken nuggets. Molly used to eat them nearly every weekend.

The whole foods in Berkeley carries them. I didn't realize not all of them would. My son would not eat the fish sticks--but he doesn't like fish in general ;) I haven't tried the chicken nuggets yet--they're pretty expensive, and he likes plain chicken breast just fine.

I think you should ask them to order them for you, because normally it does NOT mean that you'll buy a whole case. MANY grocery stores will add products to their shelves if a customer asks for them.

You can also get Ian's GF fish sticks from Country Sun health food

store on California Avenue (in Palo Alto) along with a lot of other GF

food items. Unfortunately they're a little pricey. Great selection

though!
