Guest guest
I think a lot does depend upon the ortho and the shape of the head. I saw some bands from my location (waiting room, parking lot, and PT office) that were slightly more open on top and looked a little more like a doc band. I saw others that were more like a traditional star band. They were all done by my ortho (she was the only ortho there at the time) so I'm guessing that maybe it was the head shape (in terms of where the flatness was) that guided her cutting. I can't say for sure because I never had that discussion with her. Most of the variability in bands that I saw were in the plagio rather than the brachy bands. My daughter's band was a traditional brachy starband. I do think that the plagio doc bands look more stylish so it's cool that they can be flexible with the cutting. However, I actually like the look of the brachy starband better because the brachy doc band doesn't seem to cover enough of the top of the head and it looks funny to me. Re: Design of Star BandIs this location in Florida? I believe I've heard a story about an ortho that used to work at Cranial Tech and then moved to work with the STARBand and started cutting/trimming them to look more like a DOCBand, and I'm thinking those are her bands in the pictures. I can't remember the details, but I thought it was in Florida somewhere. I'm not sure if I've heard of any other STARBands being cut similarly, but maybe it is becoming a newer trend. Jake-3.5 (DOCBand Grad 9/08)>> I was under the impression that the Star Band takes on a more "helmet" look than the DOC Band. We're going with Star Band because of location actually, but as I am researching the band, it appears that they're becoming more aesthetically pleasing. See http://www.starbandkids.com/resources/gallery.htm for pics.> > I called the Star Band's 800-number and was told that they are changing slightly, but that it's up to the orthotist to decide how "low profile" to make the band. We're in the process of ordering our band now, so I'm curious if certain orthotists cut these differently than others. Any help is greatly appreciated!>
