Guest guest
Is this location in Florida? I believe I've heard a story about an ortho that used to work at Cranial Tech and then moved to work with the STARBand and started cutting/trimming them to look more like a DOCBand, and I'm thinking those are her bands in the pictures. I can't remember the details, but I thought it was in Florida somewhere. I'm not sure if I've heard of any other STARBands being cut similarly, but maybe it is becoming a newer trend. We're going with Star Band because of location actually, but as I am researching the band, it appears that they're becoming more aesthetically pleasing. We're in the process of ordering our band now, so I'm curious if certain orthotists cut these differently than others. Any help is greatly appreciated! >
Guest guest
You must be referring to Dr. Stelnicki in Ft. Lauderdale. He is a pediatric craniofacial plastic surgeon. The person who does the STARBands there in his office used to be a clinician at Cranial Tech in Miami a few years ago. I didn't know that they trimmed the STARbands down to look more like DOC Bands. I would not recommend going to Dr. Stelnicki, as he won't even consider banding until 6 months old. I brought my son to him when he was 3 months old. He did not do any measurements or touch his head for that matter. He just told me that he had deformational plagiocephaly, and was a " 5 or 6 " out of 10 severity. Then he told me to reposition him for 2.5 more months because " 50% of these cases fix themselves by 6 months of age. " At that time, I wasn't educated about brachy or plagio, so I took his advice. About a month into the repo, and seeing no change, I found out about Cranial Tech in Miami and had an evaluation there. They told me that my son had severe brachy with a CI of 101%. They said that 4 months old was a great age to band. I have no idea where Dr. Stelnicki got the info about half of the cases fixing themselves by 6 months old! All I can say is that I'm glad that we didn't use them, and went with a DOC Band instead! > > > > I was under the impression that the Star Band takes on a more " helmet " look than the DOC Band.
