Guest guest
, I'm 10 yrs. PO. I noticed and even my hairdresser noticed how thin my hair was getting on top. I had my regular labs and low and behold, my Zinc levels were low. I began taking a zinc that the doctor recommended to me. This last visit to get my hair done, she asked how it all filled back in so well. I have very thick hair so if it thins in any area, it is quite noticeable. Guest guest
Hello and welcome to the group. Both of your doctors may be right but there are other things that can cause hair loss. It is not going to hurt you any to up the protein. You might want to add biotin to that as well, it helps digest the protein. Someone mentioned zinc deficiency and made me remember that an underactive thyroid will do the same thing. Ask your doctor to run a thyroid panel (T3/T4). Guest guest
, It's good to see another Alabama girl here. My son used Dr. DeWitt. Most of the live group I lead used him. Everyone just loves him, at least so far as I know, LOL! We are in the Auburn area so kinda long way from you. Welcome! Now the hair. Did Dr D recommend biotin? He did for my son. There are a couple of other things that you can try, but I am sure you will have lots of help here. Love this group! Been here for over 3 yrs. Reba - Auburn, AL ************************** > Hi all! Guest guest
Sorry I am so late in responding to this but being 3 yrs (almost) post-op, I'd like to share my experiences. For me, it was the worst 9-12 months out, but I just upped by multivitamin to a total of 2/day and it started to rejuvenate beautifully. I have a bad memory and forget to take them sometimes for weeks, and it starts falling out again. My hair dresser has been with me since 9 mos post op and she kinda helps me " see " what I am missing. Today she informed me to increase my multi once again I sure hope this helps. PS It looks worse than it is! (for me) RE: Message: 7 Date: Fri, 12 Dec 2003 14:30:23 -0000 Subject: Hair Loss Hi all! My name is and I just passed my 1 year anniversary on December 2, 2003. I had surgery in Birmingham, AL by Dr. DeWitt. I cannot believe it's been a year and as you have all said so many times, my life has changed immeasurably. I have a question for you all. At just over one year post op I am still having a good deal of hair loss. Thankfully I had a good full head of hair so it is not terribly noticeable but I'm beginning to worry that it's never going to stop. My surgeon and PCP seem a little puzzled but of course they are not as worried about my vanity as I am! Surgeon says to up my protein, PCP says it's all anesthesia related. Has anyone here had hair loss this late and what do you really think is the cause and solution? I've heard so many theories but would really like to hear what the true experts think. Thanks in advance! in Alabama
Guest guest
I started the SCD diet in October 2006. I have chronic diarreah for many years now. Since starting the diet I have had considerable hair loss. I was wondering if anyone has experienced this and will it get better and possible will I get any new growth??? Guest guest
, I also have a problem with hair loss. I have read that it is a common side effect of medications such as Asacol. Hair loss can also be caused by malnutrition, which is caused by diarrhea and malabsorbtion. A stressful event or illness can lead to hair loss. Some people have suggested Biotin supplements, which make your hair grow faster. I haven't tried the Biotin yet, but I have found that eating a lot of jello and taking care of my health is very helpful.
