Guest guest
Hi All, As some of you may be aware yesterday was the St. 's Day parade and celebration on many parts of Long Island. My husband and I attended the parade in Huntington. It was very nice. After the Parade we went to a local pub and there we met an acquaintance of his. A chemist, a lovely gentleman from England via Canada and finally NY. Since I rarely have a chemist in my midst, I decided to question him about various things and as a result I have to share a very important message he told me. DO NOT DRINK THE WATER ON LONG ISLAND. Apparently, there is something in the acquafirs which supply Long Island. He did extensive research on the water when he found out that LI had 7 times the national average of cancer, and figured out it couldn't be the air because then Connecticut would have the same problem with high cancer rates. So, here is basically what he said, please keep in mind it was a loud crowded bar celebrating St. Patty's Day. There is something in the water called PECs or PERCs (not really sure) Peri-chloride-ethyline, which is converted to a poly-vinyl-chloride gas. He said this substance is very dangerous and can not be filtered out as it is too small, it is sub-molecular. He said, if we must use tap water that we should let the tap water run for a long time or boil the water as when it is in gas form it dissipates into the air, thereby making the water safe. He said he also tested several bottled waters and found them all to be relatively safe, potable for drinking, etc.. I asked him about Poland Spring as we had it delivered to the house before installing a fance water filtration system and I still have several bottles in the garage. He said Poland Spring is fine. He also told me that he wanted to write a paper about this and was strongly discouraged from doing so. I wasn't sure what to do with this information, but I knew I had to share it. Please share this with all Long Island residents you know. Thanks, Kim
