Guest guest
Heidi, thank you so much for your support. ly, I'm glad the surgeon is not my doctor, also! You can be sure that my one appt with him was my last! I was the one who asked my pcp to refer me to him. He did a whipple on my sister-in-law's friend who has pancreas cancer and she was very, very happy with him. the thing is they already knew she had pancreatic cancer when she saw him so she was in a totally different situation than I am in. You are absolutely right that he is obviously ignorant in the area of pain mgmt and I have sympathy for any of his patients who have cp! I have proven his ignorance just by being able to taper off the MS Contin so quickly. He said it would take me at least a year to get off the MS Contin and that I would need 'professional help'. All this in front of my mommy like I'm some lying, sneaking kid! ly I am glad now that he did this in front of my mom and upset her even more than it did me. I was a little bit afraid that maybe when all my doctors get the letter from him saying that I am just on 'too much medication', that all my doctors might decide he's right and just tell me I'm an 'addict' and I just need to go to a drug rehab to dry me out! The logical side of me knew that my doctors do believe and trust me, but still that fear is often lurking somewhere in the back of my mind. Oh, the surgeon's one exception in regard to my meds was that I need to be on more medication for lupus - which by the way, the other meds for lupus are either steroids or chemotherapy meds - both of which can come with nasty and even life threatening side effects! Anyway, since he did say what he did in front of my mom, my mom was upset enough to tell my pcp just how I was treated. Knowing that my pcp told my mom that the surgeon's treatment of me was totally uncalled for and that I am ABSOLUTELY NOT an 'addict' made me feel so much better, as you can imagine. I am very fortunate to have such a great mom as well as a wonderful pcp, pain mgmt doc, and GI/hepatologist. thanks again for your support!
