Guest guest
Hi everyone, Chrissy just mentioned bone loss and CP. I have osteopoenia and low calcium levels. I have to take calcium supplements. The osteoporosis specialist (as well as my gastro and the pancreatologist) say it's the result of malabsorption caused by CP. They all emphasise the importance of the calcium supplements to keep it under control as well as possible. I'm soon to have another bone density scan. If the situation has deteriorated I'm to be prescribed Evista. It sounds like a Spanish night out! It's an alternative to HRT (which caused me probs.....not panc-related) and which I abandoned a couple of years ago. I was only taking it for the bones. I'm going to have to read up about Evista on the net. Of course, I may not need it. If I do, I understand it provides a level of protection against bone loss without the the possible risks of conventional HRT. In fact, it also provides protection against breast cancer. Heidi and one or two others have mentioned osteopeoenia as well. I try to walk as much as poss as weight-bearing exercise offers protection against bone loss. Sadly, I'm not nearly as methodical as I should be about my exercise but I am on my feet a good part of the day as my school is very big and on three floors. I do a lot of running about and made sure I chose a room upstairs for my office. As the Head's office and the main staffroom are on the ground floor I have a lot of stairs to do several times a day. We do have a lift but I use the stairs, for obvious reasons. I have a treadmill at home but I'm not very good about using it. So boring! Well, take care everyone. Hope the weekend is going well. Good wishes to all, Fliss (UK)
