Guest guest
Hi Sharon, <<now oggling all the recipes and wants me to order Lucy's Cook book!!! (He is looking forward to eating some nice food). I have warned him it will be a while for us to get to that stage - especially as me and my son have the chemical sensitivities. >> Lucy's is a great cookbook. There are some pretty basic recipes (the sausage recipes when you are okay with spices etc..) and some advanced recipes for you to look forward to. << Question 1; My son refuses to eat the broth/soups and is preferring > just eggs, chicken and beef. (we are dairy free) Does it matter that he won't eat the broth? >> It doesn't matter that he won't eat the broth. You could try different things with the broth. Simmering it down until concentrated as a gravy to put on meatballs. My son would drink it from a mug but not a bowl. << Question2; Do you have to wait for a die off reaction (diareah etc) before you can proceed past intro even if it takes longer than 5 days >> After 5 days you should introduce foods that are not on the intro. The intro diet should only be done for a *maximum* of 5 days regardless of symptoms. But, your symptoms at that point will guide you on what foods to introduce next. If you still have loose stool, diarrhea or constipation stick with peeled and cooked fruit and veggies. If yeast is a big problem a new veggie may be best to try first - peeled cooked small zucchini, cooked squash otherwise ripe banana, homemade apple or pearsauce. Introduce the new food in small amounts spread throughout the day and gradually increase over a few days - depending on the bodies' reaction to the food. If all is well continue to increase to a reseasonable amount/day if possible negative reaction either stop increasing or remove until a later date. << Question 3; Do you have to have a 'normal' BM before going to next stage? I am concerned this is not going to happen for me as 'normal' > is so complicated and historically elusive. I rely on 40mg codeine to > keep me 'normal'. Is SCDnormal without codeine? >> What you want is improvement in bowel symptoms not necessarily a " normal " bm. If bowel symptoms get worse when you introduce a food then you aren't ready for it. << Question 4: I am just finishing off a course of antibiotics for > unrinary tract infection. How will taking antibiotics during the > intro diet effect it? >> Maybe nothing, but most do notice worsening bowel symptoms with antibiotics. Probiotics and/or yogurt helps with this. Also S. boulardii helps with antibiotic induced diarrhea. Just search the pecanbread archives with keyword " boulardii " in the 'Search' box http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pecanbread/messages << Question 5: I take panadol and codeine together for daily headaches > (2-4 per day). Any suggestions as to how I can avoid the starch in the panadol? Or will it not matter too much? I don't know that I > should go 'cold turkey' on them as well-I think it might be too much > all at once. Any suggestions? >> Some medications can be compounded without starch and made up with legal fillers. Legal fillers list at http://pecanbread.com/supplements.html For some the small amount of illegals in meds isn't a large concern and doesn't greatly affect their bowels. It may only be micrograms of starch. << Question 6; Is there an enzyme that can help digest sulhpur so I can eat eggs? >> I don't know. I find that preparing eggs different ways makes a difference for my digestion of them. When on the intro I couldn't eat hard boiled eggs but poached was okay. Also I had immediate stomach pain from eating regular store eggs but free range chicken eggs were better than fine. They felt as if they contributed to healing. But then Elaine used to say that eggs were one of the perfect foods. Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23 yrs mom of and
