Guest guest
I havn't posted in a while but a lot has happened since July. I had and ERCP with stent change on August 20, 2004. I don't remember anything after the surgery and I usually don't. I was kept overnight and was being d/c from hospital when my mom came to pick me up. When she arrived I had a grand-mal seizure with convulsions and combativeness and aggitation. I was in the hospital for 6 more days which I don't recall the 5 of the 6.I was told that it was caused by my Wellbutrin I had been on for 3 years. I always had a problem with the hospital not giving me my prescribed med so I had them there with me to take but of course because of the anethesia I have a hard time waking up day of surgery. My mom also said that a MRI was ordered of my brain and the nurse gave me a muscle relaxer one hour prior to the MRI and then when I got back to my room the nurse let me take a shower by my self. My mother waited in my room and heard me fall.(I don't remember any of this) She screamed for the nurse and opened the door and I was laying on the floor just pulling my head up. I had most certainly hit the back of my head. The nurse came in and held me up so that I could finish washing off. My mother told the nurse twice to make an occurence report about this. After I was discharge I call Risk management at the hospital to see if a report was ever made and it was not. I continued to be persistant and the person told me they had yet to talk to the nurse who helped me and she would be working that weekend. I called the next Monday and the Risk Management contact said that the nurse did not recall anything like this happening. I was furious. I then asked for a copy of my medication orders to see what meds I received while in there. Her attitude quickly changed and said she could not release that information to me I would have to go to the Medical Records Dept of the Hospital myself and request them. I told her the problem was this that my EEG showed that my Seizure was caused from me not receiving my meds and because of the seizure I missed a whole week of work without pay. And now I owed the hospital $500.00 in deductible that I shouldn't pay. I had my follow-up with the neurologist on Sept. 20 and asked for a copy of my EEG. The result stated that it was caused by medication withdrawl. Now I am getting all my records and am considering seeing an attorney. It is terrible that this happened at the same hospital I work for but I WILL NOT just sit here and let this pass. My doctors have taken me of all together 7 of my meds since then. I am off the Oxycontin 40mg, Oxcodone 5mg, Wellbutrin 150mg, Elavil 75mg, Colestid 1gm, Robinul, and prozac. I had an ERCP on Sept 24, 2004 and again had my meds with me and thank goodness I did because they did not give me my Dilantin the first night. I took my own and the lab that was drawn a few hours later showed my level to be low so I probably would of had another seizure if I hadn't taken my own. But my anesthesia was chaged this time to Fentynel (Spelling??) and my pain med was changed to morphine. The doctor said the Fentynel is short acting and I was much more alert afterwards and the morphine is better if you have had seizures. So I was a little more nauseaous but I was Discharged from the hospital this past monday and went back to work on Tuesday. My only meds are Dilantin, Oxycontin 20, lortab for breakthrough, and zofran prn nausea. I feel like I am so awake and alive now. Sorry for the ramblings but alot has happed in two months. Thanks for listening. Sincerly, Patty Duley, Office Coordinator L. Doering, MD Louisville Oncology 3991 Dutchmans Lane, Suite 405 Louisville, KY 40207 (502)899-3366 ext. 142 .jensen@...
