Guest guest
Hi Charlene, << Sheila, > > How much s. boulardii are you taking now? > > Charlene >> I actually stopped the S. boulardii about three days ago for a break. Before Christmas while doing a lot of running around I ended up eating a lot of ripe banana daily (just because they were convenient). My bowels started to take a slight negative turn, so I decided to clear everything out again and then reintroduce things back one by one. I stopped taking all UC meds in October under the watch of my reluctant GI. Back in the spring my GI switched my meds after being released from the hospital because the sulfasalazine " seemed " to be making me ill (hospital visit was not bowel related but discovered my problem with sulfasalazine) . He thought it was the sulfa portion of the sulfasalazine so put me on Salofalk tablets (5-ASA). Over the spring and summer I gradually realized that it was the 5-ASA immunosuppresants that were making me sick and started to reduce them and eventualy stopped them. Stopping the drugs cleared up a number of inflammation in my body (I thought I had arthritic knees but that is now gone, I had serious roscea which cleared immediately etc..). But stopping the 5-ASA hasn't been straight forward becuase there were a couple of slightly positive things it did. I have had to figure them out on my own (research , trial and error). I am kind of " fumbling about in the dark " - my family doctor supports me but has little advice on what to do next. The S. boulardii has been a sort of buffer for me when something I try isn't quite working (new foods etc...) - It helps the bowels snap around pretty quickly. I think I also mentioned that it has allowed me to tolerate yogurt again. Sheila, SCD Feb., 2001, UC 23yrs mom of and

I started with a quarter capsule and gradually increased the amounts. Sheila
