Guest guest
Folks, Just a short update to let you know we haven't fallen off the face of the earth here in TX. Cameron was feeling some " different " abdominal pains last week....many of you gave me suggestions to ask the dr about when he went for his appointment on Thursday. Well, we went to his pediatric GI on Thursday. She was almost right in line with all the suggestions you all gave me. I was prepared......actually had a written list in hand, when she started naming off what all she wanted to run tests for. I kinda felt better, just knowing she and I (and all of you!) were on the same page as far as concerns for Cameron's pain. When we got home that evening, Cameron had a sort of break-down. I don't know what happened. I guess I lean more toward it being a major anxiety attack. He never lost consciousness, but he was " out of it " for about 25-30 minutes. The drs at the hospital are treating it as though it was a sort of seizure. I guess we will see. He just had his emotional plate kind of over-loaded by the dr and I think was tired and tired of being in pain....I think it just took its toll on him. Worst part was, he was in the swimming pool at the onset. Durn-near drowned on us. Anyway....we had a visit to the ER on Friday night, due to the injuries he suffered from falling (off the ladder of the pool being helped out by his 15 yr old cousin who was swimming with him). He has some head pain...and let's not forget that unknown abdominal pain that started all this~ So....since Friday, he's had: CT scan on his head, 6 blood lab workups....let's see...amylase & lipase, CBC, THS & T4 (thyroid - thought it might explain some of the body aches) and something else I can't remember they tested for. Today he had an EEG.....I told him they were " looking for life " in his head. He gave me his typical " oh mom---------- " Tomorrow, he has an MRCP. Friday, an abdominal CT with contrast. Next Friday a HIDA scan (gallbladder). Sometime between now and next Friday, they want to test him for lactose intolerance. He LOVES his milk. Wouldn't it be nice if his extra pains were a simple case of needing to " back away from the cow " ?! He was lactose intolerant as an infant, so who knows? Please keep him in your prayers. He is a tough cookie, but I am afraid it is all catching up with him lately. He is my life. My heart aches when he is afraid and hurting. He turns 12 on October 25th, so we spend lots of hours waiting for tests talking about what he's gonna drag his dad and me to for celebrating his big day. I will let yall know what we find out. Please offer any suggestions if you have any. Also, if you have a website or resource for a good way to explain some of these procedures to him, I would appreciate any and all suggestions there. I am doing what I can to help him understand, but I swear he has a better acceptance of " limited " information than I do.
