Guest guest
To those of you discussing receiving your first payment after approval. I believe it took me about 6 weeks after I got my " Official " award letter to ge the first check and it was including 12 months of back benefits. I also think I got a separate letter at the same time as the award letter telling me when payment would be made and for how much. To those who are confused in the time line involved, this is the way I understand it to be (IMO I am no expert) Just read the book and web site alot. Original date of disability (date usually set by counselor at intake exam baseed on information about when you first became unable to work) (Full time) Then after a 5 month wait your first payment will be made 6 months from the original date of Disability. Then finally 24 months from the date of your first payment (which will acually be 30 months from original date of disabilty you will be eliglible for MEDICARE. Supposedly 3-4 months before you get Medicare you will receive info in the mail to try to sort thru. I have yet to get this and my social security is due to begin in July. If anybody out there understands this any differently please let me know. Thanks, Cyndi PS Those that are getting lots of back pay, it might be handled differently. I only got 12 months. Guest guest
Cyndi, Your very concise explanation of how the SSDI payments are set up is exactly as my attorney described it to me. At this time, I'm just getting anxious to receive that official award letter.....it's only been 2 weeks since my attorney called me with the good news, but it feels much longer, lol! Even my husband is anxious, asking me each day, " did you get the letter? " We'll both feel much relieved when it finally arrives. My back benefits are slightly higher than yours, (16 months), but it's my understanding that the person gets all their back benefits, whether it's 12 or 36,in a lump sum check, in 1-2 months after the award letter. Thanks for you clear explanation of how it works. With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Griffeth Bluffton, SC South Carolina State Rep.
