Guest guest
Hi Zoie, Welcome to our support group. While I personally haven't had any problems with my ducts and don't have SOD, there are plenty of other's here who do, so I'm sure you'll get some good answers to your questions about that. I'm a bit curious to know why the doctors decided to wait two months before starting you on enzymes and a low fat diet. The diet helps so much, and the enzymes, too, that I'd think they would have started that treatment right at the beginning. You could always start adapting your eating habits to a low fat diet on your own....certainly couldn't hurt anyone and it is very healthy. Do you have some underlying problem that would explain why they think you should wait? Which Mayo clinic were you at? I'm going down to the clinic in Florida later this month for a review with Dr. Lange. Even when I was 30 pounds underweight, I still ate a low fat diet because it did so much to help me not to have pain when eating. Oh well, if you should decide to go ahead with low fat on your own, we have some good tips about cooking and food choices in our " Files " section. If you go to the files you'll see a section called " Nutrition " . Click on that and then there's a folder entitled " Diet Tips " . There's some great articles in our files, and a very informative pancreatitis library at: www.top5plus5.com Welcome again, and feel free to jump in and ask any questions or comment on other posts. Guest guest
Zoie, Hi, I too suffer from Cp due to having my gallbladder removed, and then having SOD dysfunction that went undiagnosed for 5 years. When I did finally get a (half) diagnosis, they only tested the bile duct and found high pressure so they cut the sphincter. Then I continued to have painful attacks and then 1 year later found that I also have high pressure in the pancreatic duct too. I had a sphincterotomy on that duct too, but unfortunately, I still have almost daily pain. I truly believe that because it took the docs around hear too long to diagnose me with the SOD that it caused further damage to the pancreas. I am currently treated with pain meds and so I don't suffer too much. Still have uncomfortable times with taking the pain medication, but it definitely keeps me out of the ER. Hope some of this helps. Take care Kris in TN
