Guest guest
Hi, I'm new to this ...My daughter has been diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis in June of 2004. Boy have we had a time with this ...She just turned 20 yrs. old and she went to the hosp. for severe pain about 3 days after a gallbladder surgery. They then told her she had pancreatitis . She has been in the hosp. 12 times since then and is currently in the hospital now. She is in so much pain and the drs. tell her she is going to have to deal with some of the pain ,. and she does.. but sometimes the pain is so bad she can't even function. They tell her she needs to get off the pain meds. She has had 4 stents put in since Sept. And they planning another .When she has the stent she feels fine but as soon as it comes out she is sick again. We have had drs. and nurses to say your enzymes aren't up so it can't be the pancreas But when her Gastro. dr. goes in and looks he finds a problem every time. Some even accuse her of just wanting the drugs. She has never had a drug in her life except for surgeries . and never drank any alcohol. She would love not to have to take pain meds. if she didn't have the pain.. She has lost 7 lbs. in a week .She hurts more if she eats or drinks. She has been in a close town hosp . for ten days now. But they are sending her to Dallas to her Gastro. Dr. to have another stent placed. She takes pancreatic enzymes (about 25 a day) when she eats. But that don't seem to help. I 'm afraid the Dr.s are going to cut all her meds. off and she won't get out of pain. She has never hurt like this in all her life. Its frustrating when you can't get people to believe you .She had to have a pacemaker placed last year due to low heart rate and she passed out all the time. When she has so much pain her heart rate goes too high now she has to take heart meds to slow her heart down. Will there ever be an end to all this or will she have to " Deal " as they say.
