Guest guest
Sara, Eilish is covered in bruises. They actually count them when she goes into hsp. They are nearly always on her legs as she is a climber. I dont know if they heal quickly as there are always new ones to replace it. (Australia) Bruises Hi Everyone, Zach has this weird bruise on his arm. It is a few days old, but it is getting larger and not healing and now it has a white bump in the middle. Zach seems fine. He is eating and playing like normal. It just is weird. Do cf kids bruise easily and take a while to heal? We go for a bronch on Wednesday and I think I will just have his doc take a look. Guest guest
Sara, Our bodies manufacture vitamin K in the intestines, so any time there is digestive imbalance (i.e., improper diet, diarrhea, and malabsorption diseases) or use of antibiotics, then vitamin K is destroyed. Vitamin K is necessary for proper blood clotting and bone health. You might try giving Zach a probiotic for a while, even if/when he's not on an antibiotic to see if this helps. Additionally, you can get some alfalfa tablets, which are a good source of vitamin K. GNC carries alfalfa tablets that aren't too large, you could cut them in half or in quarters for easier swallowing since Zach is still young. I've bruised easily my entire life and I've always been a slow healer whenever I'd get a cut or scrape, even though I have a good diet and take a multivitamin/mineral tablet daily. But my newest multi doesn't contain K, and I noticed that after a couple weeks being on this multi that I had bruises all over my legs. Freakish looking, especially since I wouldn't remember bumping into things. I started taking three alfalfa tablets (1,500 mg) a day and that cleared up the problem. But now I also take a high-quality probiotic whenever I must take an antibiotic OR whenever I've gone on an ice-cream binge. I can't stress enough the importance of taking care of intestinal health for our kids with CF. The repercussions are far greater than just bruises or inability to gain weight. Food and drug allergies and sensitivities and malnutrition can result from leaky gut syndrome, which stems from poor intestinal health. Kim > Hi Everyone, > Zach has this weird bruise on his arm. Guest guest
Sara, bruises VERY easily. Any little bump and she has a mark. It may have to do with the vitamin k levels. We have had checked for her K levels and they are ok but she still bruises really easily. Bruises Hi Everyone, Zach has this weird bruise on his arm. Guest guest
Is this a bruise or a spider bite? Some spider bites will do this. Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, We are leaving today to spend the day in St Louis. Have a little fun, shopping, visit the girls at the CFF, etc. His bronch is tomorrow at 9am and he will have his intestines x-rayed for blockages. That may not be necessary but I asked for one after hearing of everyone else's problems with constipation. Zach can't tell me if his side hurts so I thought an x-ray would be useful. His bruise could be a spider bite. I never thought about that. I think I will have them look at it tomorrow. The bruise does not bother Zach at all, but the lump is weird. He is still on ADEK's. We will be out soon, but the clinic is going to give us a sample bottle. They said Polyvisol would be ok until more drops are made. I heard the adek tablets are at a higher dosage and should only be used with 4 year olds and up. We haven't gotten the gown yet, but we get mail really late in the day and it could come today. I can't wait to see it. Have you made plans for 's birthday party yet? Zach is Elmo crazy and a local store had Elmo plates, cups and napkins. I ordered an Elmo doll that says Zachary so I think he will like that. I will let you know how the Bronch goes. We go to clinic on the 2nd and will find out the results. I am thinking positively for negative results. Sara > Hey Sara, > Sorry to hear about Zach's arm, you aren't getting a break these days > are you?
