Guest guest
Dear List Members, We are just beginning month #3 on diet and have just started stage three. Have not had access to site for approx. 1 month. Our 2 eldest children are having daily, healthy b.m. (Grammy Bauer-thanks for the cool cat!) Our little one (2 yr. old) is still irregular, very dark mushy stools that seem to have a very fine " grainy " substance. About a week ago both older children had mucous(?) on stools for about 4 days. Their appetites are good. While we have seen no improvement in behavior or reduction in anxiety for our eldest, we are so grateful for the healthy stools. The constant headaches and dark circles under the eyes that plagued our 4 yr old NT daughter for the first 6 weeks on scd have faded away and we are actually seeing " pink " cheeks on our childrens faces for the first time since early summer. We have just been to a pedriatic g.i. (not the first!) for our eldest (7 yr old ASD). This Dr. has heard of SCD and said it " is a very nutritious diet " . He is ordering tests to see if H.pylori and endoamoeba nana were erradicated last January. Our son tested positive for both at that time and was treated with two simultaneous antibiotics and antacid. The doctor also is recommending 3 weeks of Prevacid to see if 's almost constant rasping and throat clearing is due to Reflux. If the Prevacid stops the rasping, he wants to scope him to look for damage to esophagus. ( had severe reflux as an infant.) Will the antacids ruin all the healing we have worked so hard for? We have been fanatical about this diet. We have had two infractions (to the best of our knowledge) in over 2 months -- Larabars one day for the two older kids which were yummy but caused cramping and loose stool in eldest and red burn on lips of middle child, and one small chocolate on Christmas day which sent eldest running to bathroom with cramps and diarrhea. Any folks out there have experience with reflux and meds and this diet? We know we have to do the antibiotics if he tests positive for bacteria. I'm concerned about his esophagus--he coughs so forcefully and I just don't see a pattern to it. Something my husband and I noticed is never burps--never. Is there a way to rule out post nasal drip? He never has a runny nose. Dear friends please post if you have experience with this. We have worked so hard for what we have gained that I can barely stand the thought of deviating from the diet. The doctor is also recommending both Periactin and Duocal for failure to thrive. All children are getting Kirkman acidoph, Kirkman clo, and just started kirkman SNT with P5P I thank you in advance for your responses-- , mother of (7 yr asd), ann (4yr nt) and ph (2yr asd)
