Guest guest
Hi all, It's taken me all week to recover from the wedding. The first few days I was so exhausted that I was walking around in a haze, falling asleep at all hours of the day and feeling such a sense of letdown that it was hard to motivate myself. After all the months of planning, details, arrangements, phone calls, running to and fro and talking with my daughter at least four or five times a day on the telephone.....those first few days were a totally different kind of withdrawal. I was so used to " doing " something every minute of the day, and then lying in bed every night making mental lists, that the sudden lack of things to do came as a shock. I'm still adjusting to that, but have plenty of things that I'd postphoned till ATW to keep me busy now for several weeks. The wedding weekend itself was absolutely, miraculously, marvelously, estatically PERFECT!!! Almost. Things got off to a rough start at the restaurant on Friday morning where we were having the Bridesmaid's Brunch when the waitress spilled a whole tray of Mimosa's all over the end of our table and the bridesmaid's gifts. Without even a word or an apology, she quickly cleaned up the broken glass, changed the tablecloth, wiped down the floor and tried to hide the damage before the manager discovered her mistakes. This early clumsiness started a spillage trend that was difficult to stop.....my sister pushed away from the table to answer her cell phone and knocked a full glass of tea all over the table and the person sitting across from her.....which was I! Then one of the bridesmaid's, in an attempt to avoid getting splashed herself, quickly backed up and spilled her tea sideways onto the girl sitting next to her, who bumped the table and spilled a glass of water! Needless to say, although we all got a bit wet, it caused much laughter among us and all the nearby patrons, and it gave all the girls a funny story to take home with them. Fortunately the tea just slid right off my silk dress without staining. I spoke to the manager about the wet gifts, (which were monogramed robes and were washable anyway), and they compensated us for the damage immediately. The girls all left with smiles on their faces and were still laughing about it the next day, so no harm was done, and it will be a party that they won't forget. After that fiasco, everything else during the weekend went perfectly. All my prayers were answered, and it could not have been a lovlier weekend.....the weather was ideal, sunshine, yet not too hot and no bugs to bother us. The rehearsal dinner went off without a hitch and only a minimum of embarrassment for the groom, who was gently roasted by his 8 groomsmen. My family from Sweden, Virginia and New York were all present, with the exception of my SIL who was in the hospital in NY, and was delighted to see some that she hadn't seen in 10 years. The wedding ceremony on Saturday evening began with a bagpiper (hubby is of ish ancestry) and the music selections throughout the service were our favorites. Fortunately I had my tissues handy, because Bob almost didn't make it back to his seat next to me after giving away before his tears erupted. Fortunately, we were in prayer then and not too many noticed his tears..... Afterwards, at the reception, the food, decor, flowers, music and guests were outstanding. I never did get to eat or sit down the entire night, because there were so many people coming up to tell me how wonderful it all was. looked too beautiful for words, Chris' nervousness finally abaited after the wedding ceremony (he was a nervous wreck the first two days), and my husband, who had been practicing his welcome speech for a week, never got to speak it. That was the only sour note of the whole affair. We had a bit of a scheduling and communication problem with the band, and they launched into a full set before Bob could give his introduction speech. Being shy and nervous enough about even getting up in front of nearly 200 strangers to talk, I think he was sort of relieved by the band's mistake. Everyone had a great time anyway, and no one seemed to notice that he didn't speak since they were all having so much fun. So that's the story, of course there's a whole lot more to all of it, but I figured y'all only needed the condensed version. My CP behaved, I ate too much and a lot of some yummy, diabetically " bad " stuff on the other nights, so my BG's were a tad too high for a couple days....but I figured that would be the only time I'd ever get to let myself enjoy the food that way! And I DID have a piece of wedding cake because it would have been bad luck if I hadn't, right? So now the flurry of excitement has passed and I've settled back into my regular routine. Still not sleeping right, (as you can see by the early hour), but hopefully that will return to normal in time. I have a doctor's appointment on Monday, and will also be having another bone density test that day, too. After that I'm off to the dentist for my final impressions. With all these doctor's appointments and all, I can see that life's really returning back to normal....(sigh). With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H.
