Guest guest
Hi Laytonandgaving - SCD isn't about guts leaking food into the body, it is about depriving bacteria of food. You got bad behavior because when you starved the bacteria, they died and released toxins. Read BTVC for more. brian SCD for a month and just found out - no leaky gut-- Now really confused Finally got our pooh and urine results from the Doctor. Turns out Gavin doesn't have leaky gut or yeast overgrowth according to his tests. She recommended the GFCF diet, because he did turn out to be allergic to both as well as bananas and wheat. Also had some amino acid deficiencies (2), producing limited Folic acid, he's producing no bifidus and she said he had a bacteria called Clostridia. I saw that on another post somewhere saying if your child was not responding the SCD or having severe regression, you might want to have him tested for Clostridia. Wondered if anyone else found out they have this? She gave me sooo much information, I am still in overload trying to understand it all. We just came back from South Carolina for christmas and the diet fell through the last few days, he had a few cookies, Papa 's pizza and bread and several pieces of bacon. I was expecting diarehha, but instead got dark colored, hard pooh. I am going to try to keep him on SCD, with the exception of letting him have some GFCF chips/pretzels and spaghetti noodles. He would only eat cheese chips for snack and as we were in the doctors office he was eating some and she said no more of that- he's allergic to them. So being able to have what he thinks are real chips has given my mind a rest, even if they are $4 a bag. Wanted to know if anyone else has run into something similar to my situation, starting SCD and finding out there was no leaky gut. Reading some of the details in the results makes me think something still in fact is going on in his gut. I am confused about the difference in not having leaky gut and " not having good flora " in the gut. OOHH so much to figure out..... If he didn't have leaky gut, why did his behaviors get worse once we started the diet? becky Son 3 years old ASD SCD 1 month __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Becky, is right that what you saw was behavior due to die off of the bad bacteria. I disagree with yourdoctor about just doing GF/CF instead of SCD. You've definitely got to address the clostridia problem with the proper probiotic to combat that one. I think that all of the veterans know which one you need for that. My opinion is that you should stay with SCD especially because when you get the clostridia...and other bad flora...out of his system, it's going to take some tissue along with it. That's going to leave new, tender tissue lining his gut. You need those pealed, deseeded, cooked foods that are easy on his gut while he's rebuilding. Obviously, the labs show that there are some gut issues to be dealt with, and SCD just is the most comprehensive diet to help with healing. Guest guest
Becky, Others have addressed the leaky gut/SCD issue but I will say that Clostridia can be helped with Sacchromyces Boulardii. Clostridia cannot be starved out and sometimes needs some extra help. There is a legal S. Boulardii available from Kirkman. Charlene Finally got our pooh and urine results from the Doctor.
