Percy in Dallas

PS Heidi who is DR. SUTHERLAND.

Percy,

Dr. Sutherland is the well known doctor who practices at Fairveiw Hospital at

the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He is the doctor who invented the

procedure done during a total pancreatectomy called the Islet Cell Transfer,

where the islet cells from the pancreas are harvested and then transplanted

into the patient's liver. This procedure enables the patient to walk out the

door

after a total pancreatectomy without the fear of diabetes. If enough islet

cells

are transplanted the patient doesn't develop diabetes. The complete

procedure is called a TP/ICT and Dr. Sutherland has operated on at least 10

of our PAI members that I can think of, and possibly many more that I don't

even know about. He's been doing the procedure since the early 70's, so

he's operated on hundreds of people.

What I didn't understand is that if you have made the decision to have the TP,

then why not have the TP/ICT procedure and give yourself the chance of not

having to deal with possible brittle diabetes? Why not go for the gold instead

of the silver? If your insurance will pay for the TP, they may just as

willingly

pay for the TP/ICT. More and more insurance companies are approving this

procedure every day.

If you want more information, specifically contact information for Dr.

Sutherland, just say the word.

With love, hope and prayers,

Heidi
