We can direct to whom it should go!! Read below the answer. Joanne Schum twoluckylungs@... Thank you for visiting www.transplantliving.org. Congratulations on receiving your gift of life - I hope you are doing well and continue to do so. Please thank your sister and friend for wanting to be organ donors at the time of their death. UNOS has no directed donation policy. Directed donation is the specification of a transplant candidate by an organ donor to whom the donor wants his organ/organs donated at the time of his death. Donors and/or donor families can specify transplant recipients. It is specifically permitted under most state laws governing anatomical gifts. Of course, to receive a directed donation the recipient would have to be formally accepted for a transplant by a transplant center and would have to be medically compatible (blood type, size, etc.) with the donor. Your local organ procurement organization (OPO) would be able to tell you if your state recognizes directed donation. OPO contact information can be found if you revisit our site under Community/Member Directory. Beverley Trinkle UNOS Patient Services www.transplantliving.org 1- Joanne M.
