Guest guest
Thanks for your response, Patti. Vitamin C: We haven't increased the dose of vitamin C. He's been on between 1500-2000 for a long while. I hadn't heard the mg citrate could cause sleeplessness in some people. Does anyone else have sleep issues with mg citrate? We use magnesium in citrate form for our son's constipation. He was on mg glycinate. Thanks so much for that information. I'll do some research as well. Although, our son's been on mg citrate for over 4 weeks and we're just now seeing the sleeplessness. Wonder if that is it? He'll go to sleep and now sleeps about 5-6 hours but then all bets for more sleep are usually off. Probiotics: We were giving our son Kirkman's lactobacillis acidophilus in capsules and did switch recently to Klaire Labs Ther-biotic complete powder. We've slowly increased his dosage from 1/4 t. per day to 1/2 t. daily. Do probiotics have a sleeplessness effect? We haven't tried the SCD yogurt. Yet. I really don't think this is (another) die-off. Heck, we're not sure if the first die-off was really a die-off. About 5-7 days after beginning the diet, our son came down with a intense cold - green (yuck!) runny nose. For days on end. Something we haven't seen in him in many, many years. In retrospect, it appeared like it could have been a die-off in some way. We've been giving our son epsom salt baths on and off for years. Really haven't seen any effect in any way from them. But when we was younger, like many kids, he loved the bath so i thought why not add it and see if there's any benefit. He recently took a few baths with epsom salts but again, no change positive or negative. We're sticking with the diet for some time to come, Just disappointing to think he had sleep as a positive effect of the diet and then it turned back around. I'll search for the magnesium message as well. Thanks again. ----------------------------------------------------------- I honestly don't know if the vitamin C could be causing this. Did you increase that dose recently? Or has he taken the same dose for a long time? I know that magnesium citrate might be the most helpful form of mag for helping with constipation, but it may contribute to sleeplessness for some. I know it does that to me... if I take it before bedtime. Tamaro actually clued me in that the mag citrate might be the culprit, and suggested I switch to magnesium glycinate. I will have to go back and search for the message she sent me, explaining why.... and I'll send it to you off list. The glycinate form doesn't have the same laxative effect, though. Are you using probiotics? SCD yogurt? You *could* just be seeing another round of die-off at this point.... it's hard to know. Some kids cycle through that numerous times. Sounds like your instincts are telling you that it's not... so I'm not sure. Did baths with epsom salts help him before with die-off symptoms? I will go search for that message on the magnesium.
