Guest guest
Mark, You do have excellent information regarding the glycemic index of foods, which I encourage everyone to check out. I also want to remind people to check out the link to 'diet and well-being', also at: http://www.top5plus5.com/ This provides a brief review of how to read a food label, though it focuses on understanding the fat content of food. On this particular food label you will see that the carbohydrates are broken down into sugars. Carbohydrates are also broken down into fibers, as Heidi mentioned earlier. You will note that there are no fibers in this particular food label, so fibers are not listed. The important thing to look at is the fact that there are 31gms of carbohydrates, as well as 31gms of sugar. This food has a very high Glycemic Index, GI. Foods with lower GI will have only a portion of the carbohydrates broken down into sugars. There are some foods that have carbohydrates and only 1 or 2gms of sugar. Using the food label to check out information about carbohydrates, sugars, fibers, and proteins will definitely help you to make healthier choices.
