I know that I had just had a sphincterotomy and had pancreatitis, so

maybe they thought that I should be up there. Now that you mention

it, I do think the nurse told me that it's rare to have a room

available and it's used for pretty serious stuff. Maybe they were

just trying to pamper me cause of all the pain I was in. The nurses

on that floor were " on top of it " and would bend over backwards to

help me or my husband. I had never seen a hospital use the little

markerboards that had the physician's name, nurse's name, BP

information, etc. until I stayed at MUSC. The hospital here sucks

and I really don't think that they care if you know what your

nurse's name is. Since my stay in ton, I have seen this used

in other places that I have been hospitalized in.

It amazes me the difference in nurses...you would think that they

want to help people which results in their going into nursing. It's

sad that this is not always the case. One of the last times I was

in the hospital here at home, I had a nurse come into my room and

tell me that I could piss and moan all I wanted and ring the buzzer

every 30 minutes, but she WAS NOT going to give me any more pain

medication. I then thanked her for the heads up and told her that I

didn't buzz her for any meds, I was having chest pains and thought

that I better inform someone...turns out that I was having an

allergic reaction to the meds, and boy to she squirm. My hubby came

to the hospital at like 2AM and chewed her out. She got in big

trouble from the head nurse as well, and was told that she didn't

know what pancreatitis felt like and if the doctor said it was ok

for me to have the meds to shut-up and give them to me. Needless to

say, she kissed my butt the rest of the time I was there.

I have never had a problem with the nurses at MUSC...just wished

that I could go there whenever I had to go to an ER...would make

life so much easier! :0)--Kim S.
