Guest guest
We were on the same timeline as you and told by our pediatrician to reposition him by putting a rolled blanket on his back to make him lean to the less favored side. That didn't work and at 4 months we got an evaluation from CT. We finally got started with treatment at about 5.5 months (the CT initial evaluation and then 2nd one to do the digital scan to design the helmet took about 3 weeks total, then the insurance process took some time). When he was seen at 4 months they said it would take 8 weeks to correct but since we didn't get in there until 5 months, it took 12. So the longer you wait, the longer it might take unless your baby has some good growth spurts or if their plagiocephaly is mild. We didn't have to go to a special doctor for the diagnosis. In fact, we called CT on our own without the pediatrician's knowledge (because she figured repositioning would work and wasn't concerned about it like we were) and got the evaluation and diagnosis. They then faxed it to the pediatrician and the pediatrician wrote a prescription. Once that was done, CT sent it to their insurance people, our insurance denied it, etc... and then we paid out of pocket for it to get started immediately. I don't remember how much the initial evaluation cost but it might have been included in the entire cost of the band. So, to make a long story short, at least at the Pasadena CT, you don't even need a referral from the doctor to get a diagnosis and measurements done. You do eventually need a prescription from the doctor if they agree. Good luck! Danai
