Guest guest
Mira, I've learned by experience to be very wary of doctor's who diagnosis and medicate a patient based on symptoms alone, without the benefit of any bloodwork or other tests. I had a GI that did that once, and he couldn't have been more incorrect in his diagnosis than a six year old child would have been. In my opionion, an increase in your enzymes would be much more beneficial for you than Nexium, for a " supposed " ulcer, probably is. If a higher dose of enzymes cause you too much constipation, you should ask your doctor to prescribe Miralax. It is a tasteless powder that can be mixed into any beverage without distorting the color, consistency or taste, and it will help with either diarrhea or constipation, so it's been a lifesaver for many of us with CP and any kind of motility problems. You need to remember that any of the pain medications that we take also cause constiipation, so if you are taking any analgesics, they, too, could be adding to your problems with constipation. I personally take 5-6 Viokase 16 enzymes with each meal, and have not found that they cause me any constipation. But my analgesics do! The reason I know this is because as soon as I started on pain medication, the constipation problems began. I didn't start on enzymes until two months later, and had already been having the motility problems for two months. I've had surgery eight times through my lifetime, and any time I was in the hospital and put on pain medication, I would have problems with constipation for weeks afterward. I sure wish I'd known about Miralax in those days! With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Griffeth Bluffton, SC South Carolina State Rep.
