Guest guest
Hi Mel, << Thank you for the suggestion. We went 2 days without any veggies and it seemed to help. I know that it isn't good for the body to do straight protein, but he was having such problems. Now that he is down to 2 bm a day I am going to start adding new veggies. >> During this time that you gave up the veggies did you also stop the butter. Part of his reaction *may* be from the tiny amount of lactose in the butter, from the milk proteins (again very small amount) or from the fat itself. I recently went through a flare in which I was unable to tolerate butter even though I have been using butter since I started SCD. I had to avoid it for a while, then I tolerated ghee and now I am back to tolerating butter. When adding something in new try adding only one new thing each day so you can tell what agrees and what doesn't agree. It is easier to go slow at first than have to restart the intro every few days. << If the D hasn't become formed is it still ok to add new veggies if his symptoms haven't worsened with the new veggies? And if butternut squash makes him worse then what do I do? >> I don't tolerate butternut squash but am okay with buttercup. You can try a different type of winter squash (buttercup, kobacha, acorn etc..) You could also try a peeled, well-cooked zucchini. I find them easy to tolerate early on when cooked until tender. << Do some people seem to have problems with ground beef? Sorry to ask so many questions but I have never had a hard time like this with the intro diet. He has always responded well, and quickly, but this time we are having lots of trouble. Thanks for all the help!!! > and Cole. (Crohn's, Meds: 20mg Prednisone, Remicade no longer working like it used to, Probiotics) >> I had to switch the type of ground beef. I was unable to tolerate regular store bought ground beef. I am now doing much better with hormone free, antibiotic free ground beef. The burgers should be broiled. Fat is more difficult to digest especially for a gut going through a flare. Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23 yrs mom of and
