Guest guest
Hi Kristy - It's good to see you stopping in to give an update on Zach I'm glad to hear that he has continued to have some rounding of his head. I remember that his head never looked as severe as the numbers made it sound. Guest guest
Evan was almost 7 months old when he started the therapy. It's been about 3 months now. The forehead is still slightly bossed, but I can see it's improving. I'm worried about his face though. His whole right side of his face is still about a 1/2 inch pushed forward than the left side. I could've started treatment at around 4 months, but I was hoping it'll round out on its own. Plus he still couldn't sit up very well. And the insurance company wanted a 2 month period to try repositioning. It did not work and it seems the insurance company isn't going to pay for it anyway. I should've just ate the cost up front and started earlier. But it's reassuring that Zach looks great even after getting banded at 9 months. There must have been plenty of growth between 10 and 14 months. Does it really matter when a child is banded as long as there is sufficient growth? Guest guest
Hi, You could try an osteopath. started older and his face was not that bad. started with really slow progress and the right side of his head looked pushed forward. We started with a top notch osteopath at about 5 months into treatment and after a few more months his head no longer looked so skewed. The lower half of 's head looks good now. Although the upper half still looks a bit pushed forward in back. We are still working and hoping on that. Best, Kathy, mom to , turning 21 months being treated since 12 Rapp wrote: Evan was almost 7 months old when he started the therapy. It's been about 3 months now. Guest guest
Wow Kristy,Thank you so much. I really needed to hear your story. Zach's face looks great and it's such a reassurance that I didn't fail Evan by starting later. I really thought it would round out on its own. I am hoping for as good of results as Zachs. I can live with a little flatness in the back, but I am hoping for his face to be more symmetrical. We have about 4 weeks until his next visit. I'm hoping for even better results. Please keep Evan in your prayers and I'll definitely give you an update. Thanks again. We decided to wait and see but when we took him to his pedi at 9 months she told me basically I had missed a huge opportunity for correction- and that crushed me. Throughout treatment- this board helped me so much because I could talk to other Moms- and a few Dads that felt the same things I did. Zach's face was kinda the same after treatment- I could see that one side was up higher than the other. But as the months progressed it started to get less and less noticable- and I think it has some to do with him growing too. We all can attest to the fact that when they are babies thier heads are a bit big for their bodies- but as they start to walk and grow into little " guys and gals " they start to fill out proportionally. I took a picture of him looking in the mirror the other day when he was getting a haircut- (it is on my blog) and that is about the only time I can really see the asymetry still because I am looking at the opposite of what I am used to. It used to be so much worse- like his face was distorted (pushed in) on one side. I am not one to say if it matters when they are banded- I do agree that the earlier the better. But I couldn't help but have a smile on my face when the same pedi that told me I had missed a huge opportunity because we waited to band said- " wow- If I hadn't seen him in the band I never would have known he had worn one " - that only from the top of his head can you even barely see the flat spot- and who can even look at the top anyways after a certain age I think as a Mom I will always see it- but no one else really can Hope that helps Kristy and Zach > > > > > > How old was Zach when he started helmet therapy and how old was he when > > he > > > finished? Guest guest
Wow - it looks to me as though you may have had some more improvement - even after the band. Either that, or age has been kind to his head with hair covering more up. Have you though of going back for another scan or are you happy without needing to know his actual numbers now? Re: Zach- one year later- Hi-I posted pics to my blog at http://rkzrogers.blogspot.com/2010/03/zachs-journey-with-starband.htmlI hope the link works...if not just go to www.rkzrogers.blogspot.com and it is the most recent post.Hope this helps!>> I would love to see some pics - do you have some posted somewhere? > > Glad to hear it all worked out for you! Guest guest
My real problem is that I am a numbers person and I feel like I need to know. At the same time, I'm embarrased that I need to know. People around me think that I'm crazy and should just let it go. Re: Zach- one year later-Hi , Thanks! We are really excited that he had so much improvement- even after the band. I am happy not knowing the numbers- I spent so many months obsessing over those numbers- we are good now > > > > I would love to see some pics - do you have some posted somewhere? > > > > Glad to hear it all worked out for you! Guest guest
I understand that. I had been feeling pretty good about 's head untill her PT took the hand measurements and had me question whether her high numbers could be really on a head that looked good. But, they were hand measurements and people's feedback on this list helped me feel good about her head again. Re: Zach- one year later- I guess my main thing is- if I see the numbers and it still shows him high- it may cause me to look at him differently- and I think he looks good now :)I understand- you have to do what makes you happy! Don't be embarassed- that's just the Mommy in you! When we went to the final scanning- I asked if we could come back and scan again and they said sure- but as the months went by and we adjusted back to normal life without the band- I reconsidered and decided not to go back. > > > > > > I would love to see some pics - do you have some posted somewhere? > > > > > > Glad to hear it all worked out for you!
